About us

The Birkdale Guest House is a Victorian detached property built on two floors. It retains many of the original Victorian features whilst offering the convenience of modern-day comforts. There is free off-road parking at the front of the property. 

The Birkdale Guest House is located in Shanklin Old Village which is the oldest part of the town, where you will find pretty thatched cottages, excellent pubs, restaurants, shops and the beautiful and peaceful Shanklin Chine, leading down to the beach. 

We are a family run hotel passionate about what we do, We aim to provide clean and comfortable accommodation for our guests in a home from home atmosphere. We want you to be able to relax and enjoy your holiday and the beautiful Island.

Our accommodation consists of six tastefully and individually furnished rooms, all with en-suite facilities. We have two superior rooms – one with an en-suite whirlpool bath and separate shower, the other with a four-poster bed and double shower en-suite. All rooms come with a hospitality tray for hot beverages, complimentary toiletries, hair dryer, radio alarm.

Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms.

To ensure all guests of The Birkdale have an enjoyable stay, we have the below in place :

Check-In: Between 16:00 and 19:00. Earlier or later check in may be available, but cannot be guaranteed.

- Check out: 10:00 on day of departure.  Later check out may be available, but cannot be guaranteed - please contact us.

- We operate a No Smoking Policy throughout the premises.

- We do not accommodate guests under the age of 16.

- We do not accommodate pets.

Of our six guest rooms, two are on the ground floor. Guests with limited mobility may wish to request these rooms as the property does not have a lift to the first floor. The dining area and guest lounge are also on the ground floor.

Our comfortable guest lounge is open during your stay and includes a wide screen TV, a selection of reference books and novels to borrow.

In the morning we offer breakfast from our menu, including traditional full English. Guests can also choose from a variety of cereals, yoghurts, fruit, juices, toast and preserves. Tea and coffee are served, and a selection of fruit / herbal teas are available. We can cater for special dietary needs but ask that you bring these to our attention when making your booking.

For your lunch or evening meal there are many local – or further afield – eateries, bars and restaurants. We are happy to recommend some of our favourites.
